One Month In....

I am having to take the day off today because my youngest has ran a fever of 102-103 all weekend. So I will go into the office with all four kids just long enough to pay the bills and make the daily deposit. While I wait on the doctor's office to open to try to get him in, I thought I would take a moment to vent. This weekend passed made one month ago that the work on my house should have been done. They managed to get the roof and shed done..(she is missing the shelf)...but built. In four days time, week before last, two little white boys set one post for my porch to be extended. Then at 2:30 on Friday,3 Mexican men showed up and set all the posts, did the wrap around and then framed up the drop down extension. And mind you, I am by far not prejudice, I just want to make sure it is clear the work effort that is put forth by different people. I do think that we may have had things a little too easy and not be aware of how hard some actually had to work to get somewhere long before us. Anyway, that is a rant for another day. So they come back on Saturday and put the decking boards down for the octagon drop down. They left saying they would be back Sunday to do the steps and rails. One week ago Sunday. Well, I am still waiting for someone to come finish. The contractor who subbed them out says that they all went to eat Sunday morning and had gotten Salmonella poisoning from the local Western Sizzlin. Possible.... SO he says that they will be back to work Friday. Well, on Saturday he text me to say that they will be here Monday. I don't think I should get my hopes up that they will actually show today. They still have to do the steps, railing, two tree benches, put in a light, and change a pipe for the sewer exhaust. Think it will be done today? LOL probably not. They have their money. Since the insurance company made the check out to both of us, the only way to do it was sign it and let them cash it. My bank wouldn't let me cash it unless he was there, but his would. SOOOO, they have $7600 while I have a mess in my yard still. Guess we will see what today holds. I am sure they did not expect that I would be sitting at home with a sick child, knowing that they had not shown yet.

A "normal" day for me.....

So I began typing an entry yesterday about the construction process, but had to leave in a hurry so it didn't make it on. Before I get into the great stuff, I will filly in on the roof. One week to the day from the time they started a one day roof project, I have my roof, new gutters, and a new shed, which all look rather good. I did have to stay on them to keep a few things from being slopped together, but it is all done. OH WAIT, they still haven't started the porch. Maybe that will happen this week.
In the meantime, while we are on the subject of porches. I did a very clumsy thing.I have some wicker chairs that I acquired from a rental property that my boss has. They are in rough shape so I had finally gotten around to getting some paint to put a new coat and cover the cushions. Since last summer I had just graduated college and finally quit working multiple jobs, this was really the first spare time I had to do something that was more or less for myself. So I started my morning by painting just one of the chairs. It was all I had time for since I was throwing a birthday cookout for Karen. I was on the porch with my two youngest nephews, and being ME, I couldn't just set there wasting time.SO, I decided to go ahead and cover one of the chairs cushions to get an idea of the final project. I was thoroughly pleased with the results. Thus the pleasure led to a bad idea. I decided to pressure wash the other cushions to they would be just as clean as the one I had just done. The cord gets hung on the paint that I had just opened this morning......and it happens. The can falls over and shows me that I hadn't gotten the lid on quite as tight as I thought I had. 3/4 of the gallon of white paint pours onto the pretty porch that I had just pressure washed last week. Bright idea hits me.....grab the pressure washer before it sets. Of course this bright idea is a bad idea. You are all thinking it, but I follow through and keep trying and continuously making it worse. My porch, my wall, the flower bed, the bench, chair, and table all look like I had a paint bomb go off. And although I was not laughing, I couldn't help but think as the white paint was spraying my roses, of Alice in Wonderland.."We're painting the roses red." How messed up is that? Of course by this point, everyone here was aware of what I had done. But, they all kicked in and got painted up too and tried to help. The entire time, my brother Robbie was giggling madly. He loved it. At this point we have all kicked into gear cleaning and while the pressure washer made everything worse, it was our only hope now. We tried some sand paper, no help really, then moved onto a wire brush attached to the drill. We pulled out some paint thinner and rags. This was going to be a slow process with rags and paint thinner on the porch. The speckled sidewalk was getting better faster with the pressure washer. SOOOO, another bright idea..lol Now I know that everyone is shaking their head thinking...hasn't she learned her lesson, but you know better. I lack patience so how can I do this perfectly but quickly. I got an attachment from my rainbow and started pouring the thinner directly onto the porch while I was on my knees right behind it scrubbing away. Oh My Gosh, it works great. This position was rough on the knees so I sat down and kept going. Yes, you guessed it. I moved across the porch following the path of the paint. Thinking it yet? I start burning a little not too bad, so I am determined to get it done. By the time I get the floor of the porch done and stand up to do the spindles of the railing, the air hit my rear-end and the fire is lit. Holy cow I couldn't get to the bathroom fast enough to peel off the pants off. as I ran through the bedroom I tripped over a leg massager at the end of my bed. Can't think about that pain though cause I think the paint thinner is trying to eat part of the fat off my bottom. Although I could stand to have a slightly smaller butt, this is not how I want to get it. I peel away the clothes and probably part of my hide and spend 15 minutes trying to soak off the paint thinner. Poor Kevin keeps pressure washing the sidewalk for another hour though and gets all the paint off. Thank God for him right now. Meanwhile, I have come inside to vent and try to to ease the burn. I really hope I don't wake up with a blistered bottom. That would be an odd call in for work. Well you see, I have blistered my but cheeks and thighs so I can't really sit in the chair long enough to do your books today.
The funny part is that all along I am thinking... Really? Really? I am outside watching over two very small boys to keep them from getting into anything and here I am making the mess. Easton and Eli kept coming to the door wanting back outside and saying Nae Nae, you made a big mess. Nothing like a 3year old and 4year old putting you in your place. And the even better part that things like this have became the norm in my life. Maybe I will post just a few of the wonderful stories that I have EARNED since I became a mother. Looking forward to hearing the jokes on my behalf. Hope this helps you feel a little better about your day.
